We Are More Than Our Titles

A keynote address from Joanna Bloor

How do you answer the question, "what do you do?" Most of us answer simply by reciting facts. Well, here's the thing. Every decision made about you and your career is likely made in a room you're not in. And if the people in that room only have your list of facts to go on, you may be missing out on new opportunities and advancement. In this funny, factual address, Joanna will help us all understand how to talk about our work in a way that helps shape others' thinking about us and, in turn, helps advance our careers.

    About Joanna Bloor

TED veteran Joanna Bloor has been described as a little like Tony Robbins, Bette Midler, and Steve Wozniak rolled into one.

  • Why this event

Every woman's professional journey is unique...

But if you’ve had honest conversations with your colleagues, you know that we are more alike than different. We really do have common views and experiences when it comes to financial services work.

What’s missing from our industry is an event organized around this point-of-view. So, we decided to create one.

I know that I want to meet with other women who share my experiences - women who have so much great expertise to share, who want to get to know one another better, advance their careers and, as they do, improve workplace culture for everyone. I’ll bet that you do, too.

We're hard at work on this and we'll have more information for you soon. Let's stay in touch!

It's not about calling men out, but rather calling women up...

I am so excited about this conference. It feels like everything I’ve done before has led me to this point. This will not be a conference about compliance or best practices, but about women; about the common professional challenges we face, about how to tell our own career story, and about building our network.

I’ve had several pretty distinct careers across a wide variety of industries. I have often found myself to be the only woman in a room, or one of just a few. As I think back on my career, I realize that nobody has ever really taken me under their wing, or been a champion for me. I regret that. Maybe it was my issue; maybe it was the environments I’ve been in. Nonetheless, I am where I am, and I - like you - have a story to share.

This event is not about calling men out, but rather calling women up.

I hope you’ll join me and Amy in Baltimore this December and get a last boost of professional energy just before the holidays!

Check this space regularly for new stories shared by attendees all across the consumer finance industry. And let us know if you have a story to share. You can email us about it right here.

I was confident right out of college. Confident may be an overstatement - let’s call it naive bravery. But, when I moved into increasingly structured, corporate cultures, I received a lot of coaching about reeling in my opinions and candor. The teams I led didn’t take issue with me, but there was...
